The Blue Ox opened recently its doors in downtown Lynn and has quickly become a favorite in the area for their great food and ambience. It was recognized as Best New Restaurant – North of Boston by Boston Magazine’s BEST OF BOSTON 2009 and was featured on NECN’s TV Diner with Billy Costa; more recently, it was reviewed by Devra First for the Boston Globe.
The place was completely renovated with a very hip decor and original artwork by local artist Traeger DiPietro. The Blue Ox features a full bar and a nice selection of domestic and imported wines, making it the perfect place to hang out with the local crowd and have a drink after work or a nice dinner with friends and family.
Chef Matt O’Neil has put together a menu with a variety of options that include appetizers, soups, salads, gourmet sandwiches, grilled steak, hamburgers (The Blue Ox burgers are a great choice), fish and seasonal specials. For vegetarian /non meat try the Pear salad with roasted hazelnuts and goat cheese or the ricotta ravioli. A nice feature is the Kid’s Meal Deal, priced at $6, including soda and dessert. They have a nice selection of $5 desserts, including their signature cheesec ake and cinnamon ice cream. Everything I’ve had from their menu has been outstanding; unlike other restaurants in the same price range where you are left with a feeling that the kitchen is one huge conveyor belt churning out dishes like a giant factory, The Blue Ox delivers every dish with a personal touch. It gives the impression that your meal has been carefully prepared just for you.
In summary, The Lynn Restaurant Group seems to have found the perfect formula for Lynn: The Blue Ox is a beautiful restaurant with a great menu and reasonably priced, making it the place to go in Lynn when you want to treat yourself to a nice meal without having to worry about your credit card bill at the end of the month.
