Mixed Media

This year’s Mixed Media exhibition features nearly fifty works by *thirty artists from throughout New England and was juried by Joanne Mattera. Ms. Mattera is a painter who exhibits and lectures widely and curates occasionally. In Boston she is represented by the Arden Gallery. Ms. Mattera is the author of The Art of Encaustic Painting, known colloquially as “the encaustic bible,” and the Joanne Mattera Art Blog, which has developed a dedicated following for its coverage of art and artists in New York City and elsewhere. Ms. Mattera is a visiting lecturer in the 2D Department at the Massachusetts College of Art, and the founder/director of the Conference of Encaustic Painting at Montserrat College of Art, Beverly, Mass., now in its fourth year. She divides her time between Salem, Mass., and Manhattan.

Patterned Tactic(s) Willow Community Gallery

Patterned Tactic(s) brings together the work of abstract painter Megan McNaught, and sculptor Christina Pitsch. The artists are linked by their use of pattern and repetition both in the process of making, and in the finished imagery of the work. The show consists of free hanging life size clear deer sculptures surrounded by large-scale geometric net drawings. The work is striking because it is inherently complex, yet the results are quiet and deceivingly minimal in nature.

Photovoice: Girls’ Voices, Girls’ Vision Hartman Leigh Children’s Gallery

Photovoice: Girl’s Vision, Girl’s Voices, a program run through Girls Inc., was started in 1991 in a small village in China where women were given cameras to photograph what they liked and didn’t like about their village. They wrote stories to go with their photos and sent them to government officials. Lynn’s Girls Inc. participants have participated in the program and through their photography have had a chance to show adult leaders what they like and don’t like about their community, neighborhood or school.

Gallery hours: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday 10 am-5 pm, Thursday 10 am -7pm, and Saturday 10 am – 4 pm.
