Dan Broderick of the Friends of Lynn Woods reports:
Sunday, October 10th was the annual Pirate Day Funfest in Lynn Woods. It was like the Wizard of Oz, Pirates of the Caribbean and So You Think You Have Talent all at one event. An overflow crowd of 1500+ enjoyed a sun filled day of pirate meetings and damsel in distress rescues. Families just kept reporting for Pirate duty the entire 11am-3pm time period.
Marching into the Woods for a 45 minute walk guided by their pirate leaders, children were recruited for active duty and given the correct Pirate walk, talk and song to become seafaring mates and enjoy the story of pirate life as they were entertained at each pirate stop along the way, ending at Dungeon Rock with their rescue complete and their pirate training confirmed.
It was a wholesome friendly family event that may have tired folks by the end of pirating training, but all were enchanted and excited to experience the fun created by Park Ranger Dan Small with the support of Friends of Lynn Woods, extra help from the Lynn Park Department, and as always, the total commitment of an army of volunteer pirates.
Each year that we present the Pirate Day adventures it becomes more popular and exciting as new story lines and costumes are added. So if you were unable to make it to this years event, look for notice of Pirate Day next October and come aboard for some pirating adventure.
See you there.
