About EXTRAS:
EXTRAS for Creative Reuse was originally founded in 1981 as The Institute for Self-Active Education by artist/educator, Dr. Walter Drew. Dr. Drew, initially inspired by observing African children transform simple materials into toys and art, started the organization in a crowded closet with limited financial resources. Also formerly known as the Boston Public Schools Recycle Center, the organization was one of the first of its kind in New England. With a focus on cultivating learning and exploration through the use of found objects, Dr. Drew influenced the development of other educational recycling centers around the country. Nearly thirty years after Dr. Drew’s work began, EXCL relocated to Lynn, MA and changed its name to EXTRAS for Creative Reuse.

A membership based organization, EXTRAS provides teachers, artists, entrepreneurs, day care providers, after school programs and more with affordable, reusable materials to create, learn and play. For more information about EXTRAS, visit their website, www.extrasforcreativereuse.org, or contact Jocelyn Almy-Testa at jocelyn@extrasforcreativereuse.org or call 781-599-9939.

Parking is available in the lot beside the building. EXTRAS for Creative Reuse is located on the third floor of the J.B. Blood Building, 20 Wheeler Street, in Lynn. The building is handicapped accessible with a chair lift to the first floor, and then an elevator to the third floor.
