Brotherhood Credit Union is donating $100 each day during the month of February to ensure that low-income households living in Lynn are able to heat their homes this winter. The Massachusetts Coalition for the Homeless will distribute the $2,800 donation to clients that need assistance supplementing their heating costs.
This is the sixth year Brotherhood Credit Union has donated throughout the month of February and a total of $17,000 has been given to the Coalition by BCU to go toward heating assistance. In addition, the Credit Union has been generous to the Coalition’s A Bed for Every Child Initiative. BCU has contributed over $1,600 to go towards beds for children living in poverty through placing spare change canisters at teller windows.
“Brotherhood Credit Union has been in Lynn since 1934, and we feel it is important to assist local families who are struggling to make ends meet,” said Chief Financial Officer Adam Sherman. “The tumultuous economy continues to make it more difficult than in previous years for households to pay for heating costs, or to provide their children with a warm bed to sleep in at night. We are proud to continue to collaborate with an impactful organization like the Massachusetts Coalition for the Homeless.”
The Massachusetts Coalition for the Homeless is a leader in developing innovative advocacy and programming on homelessness prevention, affordable housing and meeting basic needs. Created in 1981, the Coalition embraces a collaborative approach to unify people and mobilize resources to support its mission to end homelessness in the Commonwealth.
