Clean Up Day at Pine Grove Cemetery Saturday May 4th, 9:00am
Members of the group working on putting Pine Grove Cemetery on the National Register are holding a Clean Up Day this Saturday, May 4 beginning at 9:00 a.m. Meet at the Forest Rock section of the cemetery which is the hill to the right of the Rhodes Chapel. If you are worried about finding the group, just follow the hand-made signs that will begin at the Boston Street Entrance.
The group is focusing clean up efforts on older sections of the Cemetery. The Forest Rock section has a beautiful view of Lynn and the waterfront. Some of the graves in this section include Minutemen from the Revolutionary War, the grave of a man who participated in the Boston Tea Party, abolitionists who fought for the end of slavery, civil war veterans, one of the Lynn Beach Painters and a former Mayor and State Legislator of Lynn. In addition to trash pick up we will be cutting grass close to the markers, and removing unwanted growth of bushes and trees. Bring your work gloves, sun screen, clippers and loppers if you have them. The DPW is providing a truck and rakes. Refreshments will be provided.
Rain cancels. Rain date – May 18.
