From the Lynn Community Association:
“Lynn Community Association and Lynn Housing and Neighborhood Development are partnering for a community blood drive on Saturday, July 27th, 9am to 2pm, at the LHAND Community Room, 10 Church Street in Lynn, . The Red Cross always has a high need for donations during the summer months, due to the number of regular donors who travel and are not available. It is critical that we maintain adequate supplies to cover any emergency situation that may arise.
Individuals who are 17 years of age (16 with parental permission), meet weight and height requirements (110 pounds or more, depending on their height), and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood. Please bring some form of positive ID when you come to donate. No appointment necessary, but you can make an appointment by visiting redcrossblood.org or call 1-800-RED-CROSS.
As a blood donor, you can help save up to 18 lives per year.
That’s because you can donate blood 6 times annually and each blood donation is processed into components (e.g., red blood cells, plasma, and platelets) that can save the lives of 3 different people with different needs.
About 38 percent of the U.S. population is eligible to donate blood, yet only 5 percent of eligible donors across the nation actually give blood.
Why do so many eligible people fail to become blood donors? The most common excuse is, “Because nobody asked me.”
So, we’re asking… please become a blood donor. This Saturday is a really good day to start!”
