A benefit concert for The Listening Place, An Afternoon at the Oscars performed by the Hillyer Festival Orchestra will be an afternoon pops concert of beloved film scores and songs ranging from the classic black and whites, to Disney favorites, to John Williams scores all ages will recognize.
The orchestra, conducted by Dr. Dirk Hillyer, is best known for its 4th of July performances on Derby Wharf which draws thousands of people annually. Its members are all professional musicians from the Bsotn area, several of whom have performed with the Boston Pops. Hillyer will donate proceeds from the concert to The Listening Place, a counseling and mental health center in Lynn that provides accessible behavioral health support in a warm, welcoming atmosphere. Says Father Alfonse Ferrara of The Listening Place, “We’re grateful for the friendship of Dr. Hillyer and his pops orchestra. This will be the third time they’ve performed a benefit for us, and I hope film music will draw people of all ages to a fun afternoon concert.”
The concert will also include soloist Jean Danton. She is a favorite soloist with Pops orchestras including the Boston Pops Orchestra with Keith Lockhart and Bruce Hangen, North Shore Music Theatre, North Shore Philharmonic Orchestra, New England Light Opera, and American Classics. She has performed at Carnegie Hall, and in esteemed festivals for opera an d classical music across the country. Says Hillyer, “Danton is top notch. She’s going to steal audience hearts with strong vocals and a commanding stage presence. She is pure talent.”
