Photos to the Editor – Old Trash vs. New Collection Program

Why not show your opinion with pictures? This could be a thing. We’ll call it a phototorial.

Calvin Anderson, whose editorial ran in the Item today, sends a photo of Lynn on Trash day and one from Medford to illustrate the difference we’re supposed to see beginning December 1st.

Remember, don’t start using the new barrels until December 1st!

what happens if you put your barrels out by the curb, 18″between them as in the video and head off to work only to have some yahoo pull up and park in front of them? we have no control over this, especially on streets with multi-family homes and even more cars coming and going 24/7!

Addendum: BTW, LynnCam has a segment captured last week that is being telecast starting now that shows an interview with DPW reps and a video demonstration for the new procedures. Check out the LynnCam web site or ‘crawl’ for telecast skeds.

Just the sort of questions to work out now, by seeking advice from the DPW, et al… the mechanical ‘arm’ on the truck should be capable of working around the parked cars, but check it out in particular, regarding the specific venue. When the first snow pile happens soon, that is the time to shovel / carve out a place where the bins will be rolled to on trash day, and keep framing the area in subsequent storms… let me know if you like, and more advice can be offered, perhaps with a field visit to the site.

I think the program is great. My issue is location. I live on a narrow dead end with no curbs. We park in front of our home. How is that going to work?

I don’t get the pushback this new system is getting. People need to stop thinking that every change is a bad thing. We need to embrace it and stop the negative thinking. Too many people have told me “Oh, it won’t last. We’ll be back to the old system because people can’t follow along”. With that horrible attitude it may seem like that–but seriously, if residents can’t follow along with these incredibly easy instructions than there’s a big problem with them.
