Review by Steve Duffy –
This raunchy comedy stars Will Ferrell as a wealthy hedge fund manager named James King. When he is sentenced to prison for fraud and embezzlement, he enlists a car wash attendant named Darnell (Kevin Hart) to help him prepare for life behind bars.
Both Farrell and Hart are extremely funny and their collaboration in this film is fantastic. Their goofy immature antics at-times will have you bursting out loud.
The supporting cast includes a thug-like T.I., spoiled-rich girl Alison Brie, and Craig T. Nelson. In the long run, Get Hard, will be better experienced if you wait until it arrives at Redbox – this way you will not be laughing away your money.
Get Hard may have tried to find a delicate balance to get laughs, but it failed. It’s too bad, because at times the movie was very funny and had some really hilarious scenes. The storyline focused too much on the negative portrayal of racial discrimination and the gay lifestyle. I am sure it was not meant to be mean-spirited by any means, but it sure came across that way.
R for pervasive crude and sexual content and language, some graphic nudity, and drug material.
