“Life is in the Blood”

Recent acts of racism and discrimination in the U.S. and even around the world have made us well aware that discrimination and hate are still present in our society.

From Ferguson to Baltimore, from New York to the message of the media is clear: blood has been spilled.

Whether we are talking about our history or current events, we hear about issues regarding “White America” or “Black America”, but at the end of the day, we must understand that no matter what our racial, ethnic, or religious differences may be, we are all human beings and the same thing runs through our veins: blood.

The Embassy of Activists for Peace has carried out different blood drive initiatives through their project “Life is in the Blood – Donating the Sap of Life.” We at the GEAP promote altruistic and habitual blood donation and train our volunteers about this subject with the objective of providing a greater understanding of just how critical blood donation is to human life.

A few days ago, we held a blood drive at KIPP Academy. Most of our donors and new volunteers were donating blood for the first time. Today, those same people are talking to their families, friends, schools, business, churches and communities, raising awareness about the importance of blood donation and respect for life.

In the end, every human being needs blood in order to live, and if someone needs a blood transfusion, the race, ethnicity, culture, or religious identity of the person who donates that blood does not matter.

This act of donating allows people to come together and share as they donate something that is fundamental to life. People make rallies and marches, why not make blood drives as an act of solidarity?

We call on residents of Lynn and North Shore: no matter what your background, religion, ethnicity or race may be, let’s show solidarity and respect for life. Come donate and give the gift of life.
