Review by Steve Duffy –

How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying is a satire about sex, ambition and climbing the corporate ladder. The musical follows the rise of J. Pierrepont Finch (Tyler Bradley Indyck), who uses a book called “How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying” to climb his way to the top. Along the way, he encounters the “company man,” backstabbing co-workers, the office flirt all who are obstacles in his way to the big office in the corner.

Tyler Bradley Indyck was confident, charming and had excellent vocals as the devious J. Pierrepont Finch. Trying to foil his every step is the mischievously Bud Frump (Angelo McDonough). McDonough is a delight and uses his comedic skills to make his devilish character likeable.

Aimee Doherty, as Hedy La Rue really hams it up as the office bombshell. The recorded voice of former WBZ newscaster Scott Wahle is heard as the narrator, has an appropriate amount of deadpan wryness.

As always, the Stoneham Theatre has an outstanding orchestration, great lighting design, amd colorful costumes. I am always impressed how they do a lot with a very minimal set.

Stoneham’s revival of the Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize-winning 1961 musical comedy is a roaring fun time. Its blend of goofiness and cartoonish campiness is perfectly staged and a joy to watch.

Run: 2 Hours and 45 Minutes. (15 Intermission)
