Children’s Friend and Family Services (Children’s Friend) recently honored the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s (SAMHSA) National Children’s Mental Health Awareness Day by galvanizing supporters at an event at the Danversport Yacht Club.
Joining President and CEO Carla M. Saccone and the Children’s Friend board of directors to mark the tenth anniversary were Senator Joan Lovely, Alice Moore, Undersecretary of the Executive Office of Health and Human Services, Mark Newman, Associate Justice of the Essex County Juvenile Court and State Representatives Brad Hill and Lenny Mirra.
“Mental health is essential to overall health. We must treat mental health challenges with the same urgency and respect as we treat physical health challenges,” noted Saccone in her welcome.
The crowd enjoyed a slide show highlighting Children’s Friend and how the organization supports over 3,000 children and their families from Essex County each year with programs focusing on Mental Health Counseling, Wraparound Services, In Home Therapy, Therapeutic Mentoring, Juvenile Court Services, Teen Parenting Program, and Volunteer Youth Mentoring. Children’s Friend is one of the oldest and largest community-based counseling organizations for children and families. Children’s Friend has offices in Salem, Lynn, Lawrence and Gloucester.
