Road Closure and Detour Traffic Plan

Road: Washington St.

Bounded by: Western Ave., Franklin St., Laighton St.

Start Date: Tuesday September 1, 2015
End Date: Friday September 4, 2015

Reason: Installation of a pressure reducing valve to enable temporary switch over to MWRA water system from the Lynn water system while the Lynn Low Service Reservoir cover is replaced.

Details: Prior testing of the Lynn and MWRA water systems have revealed that the MWRA water system delivers water at a higher PSI (pressure) than the Lynn “Low Service” piping system can safely handle, therefore a special l2x 16-inch pressure reducing valve (PRV) must be installed at the existing Lynn/MWRA interconnection located on Washington St. in the vicinity of Ho. # 63.

The PRV installation will require modifications to the existing MWRA concrete vault housing the 16-inch MWRA valve as well as the installation of approximately 12 linear feet new water pipe to connect MWRA water service the Lynn water system on the other side of the street. This work will require the closure of Washington St. during the daytime construction hours of 7:am to 4:pm.

Detour Route: Southbound (towards downtown) traffic on Washington St. wiil be detoured west on Western Ave. to south on Franklin St., then east on Laighton St., returning back to Washington St.

Northbound (towards Boston St.) will be detoured west on Laighton St., to north on Franklin St, then east on Western returning back to Washington St.

See attached detour plan.
