5 Questions is a series by Steve Duffy –

Kristin Cavallari may have gotten her start on reality TV, but the former star of “Laguna Beach” and “The Hills” sure has come a long way since then. The mother of three has now added author to her list of accomplishments. “Balancing in Heels” is a behind-the-scenes, in-depth look at the real Kristin Cavallari.

SD: Why write a book?

KC: Well, I feel like the public has gotten to know me over the last 10 years and I feel I am at a good place in my life where I can really share with them more of who I am.

SD: You cover some great topics in your book (Motherhood, Exercise, and Style).  Is there a topic that didn’t make the book that you wish had?

KC: Believe it or not, no! When I wrote the proposal everything that I wanted to share I wrote in it. My publisher loved it and they went with it. The book is a very accurate representation of me and my interests.

SD: Being married to NFL player, Jay Cutler, was it difficult to get his buy-in to your “New Food Philosophy?”

KC: Absolutely! For it to work, it really needs to be a family decision. Since Jay has Type 1 diabetes, he is the one who needs to be even healthier. With the changes in the way we eat, he is at his best. He has great levels. It just proves how a good diet can make a huge different in your life.

SD: Celebrities are often afforded opportunities that normal people don’t have. What advice do you have for the mom who is not balancing on heels but on flip-flops?

KC: Most of the time, I’m also balancing in flip-flops too.  It is hard being a mom and working. Also, being a mom is one of the greatest job I have ever had.  At the end of the day, as moms, we have to make sure we are doing our best for ourselves and our families. It really doesn’t matter what you do for a living.  As for advice, I am still looking for it. I just try to do my best and live my life and that is what I hope for other moms. That would be my advice.

SD: Something that the reader will learn about you from reading “Balancing in Heels” that they might not already know?

KC: I think they are going to see how honest I am. I am sharing things about my family and my relationship with my husband. No one’s life is perfect. I believe that like me, we all have to do everything we can to make it work.
