The Huntsman: Winter’s War

Review by Steve Duffy –

Freya the Ice Queen (Emily Blunt) brings her sister, Ravenna (Charlize Theron) back to life, and the powerful evil siblings plan to conquer the Enchanted Forest. Only the Huntsman (Chris Hemsworth) and his secret lover, Sara (Jessica Chastain) can stop them in this sequel continuing the inventive twist on the Snow White fable.

This sequel to the 2012 “Snow White and the Huntsman” focuses on how Eric (Chris Hemsworth) becomes the Huntsman. There is clearly a “Frozen” inspiration to the film. The cast is divine, especially Theron and Blunt.

Theron is deliciously evil and seems to be having lots of fun in her role.

Sheridan Smith comes is great as the film’s comic relief. She has perfect comedic timing and delivery.

What really suffers is the plot to this film. Behind all the glittering and silvery costumes, there is nothing. The movie comes up flat.

The only thing worth seeing in this film is the breathtaking costumes along with the visually elaborate CGI.

Rating: PG-13 for fantasy action violence and some sensuality

Runtime:  2 hr. 3 min.
