Film review by Steve Duffy –
Adapted from the 2012 bestselling novel by Jo Jo Moyes, “Me Before You” tells the story of the unexpected relationship that blossoms between a contented small town Englishwoman (Emilia Clarke) and the wealthy, paralyzed Londoner (Sam Claflin) who hires her as his caretaker.
Clarke is perfect as the bubbly hired caregiver to Claflin’s icy rich quadriplegic. There seem to be some genuine chemistry between the two actors on screen.
I felt the romance between the two main characters never fully reaches the tear-jerking emotional peak that it could have. However, I found this bitter-sweet love story to be a lot better than the last few Nicholas Sparks movies.
“Me Before You” is definitely the most watchable love story of the year so far.
Rating: PG-13 for thematic elements and some suggestive material
