Volunteers and downtown neighbors spent a few hours Thursday, July 28th continuing work on beautifying Central Square, part of an effort the Downtown Lynn Beautification Project’s founder, Soraya Cacici, hopes to grow throughout the downtown.
Yesterday, the group concentrated on the neglected traffic island in front of 23 Central, across from the former Cafe Moka (soon to be new cafe) on one side, and Flag Pharmacy on the other. They installed planters, filled with heavy gravel and a top layer fresh soil, in which they artfully arranged plants.
“We have piles of soil and mulch awaiting us, courtesy of Lynn’s DPW, and we just put together the new planters that we purchased, thanks to the generous donations of The Blue Ox, Stainless Communications, Nest Forward, and Downtown Lynn resident, Joanna Hamblin.” said Soraya Cacici in an email to volunteers. Leahy Landscaping donated gravel and the Downtown Lynn Neighborhood Association is going to make a donation in advance of the next phase of the project.
“None of this would be possible” says Cacici, “without Lisa Nerich from Lynn’s DPW. She has been amazing.”
