Theatre review by Steve Duffy –
Spamalot, now playing at the North Shore Music Theatre through October 9, 2016. For tickets and information call (978) 232-7200, visit www.nsmt.org, or visit the box office in person at 62 Dunham Rd., Beverly, MA. Monty Python’s Spamalot is sponsored by ASR Roofing Professionals.
Spamalot, based on the cult classic film, is less about the plot and more about making you laugh. But in case you don’t know the basic story, it is about King Arthur’s hilariously attempt to gather up his “Knights of the Roundtable” while searching for the Holy Grail.
Al Bundonis plays King Arthur straight while he is surrounded by everyone’s tomfoolery.
My favorite role is Lady of the Lake, played by Haley Swindal. Her transition from fleeting nymph to nightclub singer to romantic lead was flawless. Her voice is golden as she sings and I wanted her to just sing all night long.
Johnathan Gregg plays Sir Lancelot, the brave knight who is hiding a secret of his own. Gregg is vocally and physically perfect as he portrays several other characters.
The entire cast impresses in all the flashy song-and-dance numbers like “Knights of the Round Table” and “Find Your Grail.”
Spamalot is ridiculously good fun and you will be laughing long after the show has ended.
