Film review by Steve Duffy –
Set to the all-new sonic backdrop of Awesome Mixtape #2, Marvel Studios’ “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” continues the team’s adventures as they traverse the outer reaches of the cosmos. The Guardians must fight to keep their newfound family together as they unravel the mystery of Peter Quill’s true parentage. Old foes become new allies and fan-favorite characters from the classic comics will come to our heroes’ aid.
The sequel isn’t as exciting as the original, because the storyline involves splitting up the team, making the film lose some of the chemistry that was great in the first story.
Hollywood legend Kurt Russell is a great addition to the cast portraying a celestial being who claims to be Quill’s long-lost father. In this sequel, Dave Bautista’s Drax was my favorite character. He gets a lot more great and funny lines. If you have watched any of the trailers, you know that it’s Baby Groot who steals much of the movie.
Of course, the soundtrack – “Awesome Mix Vol. 2,” is just as great as the first Volume. Songs included are “Brandy (You’re a Fine Girl)”, “Bring It On Home to Me,” and “Wham Bang Shang-A-Lang.”
The visual effects are astonishing. It may not be necessary to dish out the extra cash to see it in 3D — you will still enjoy it in 2D IMAX.
As always, stay in your seats until the end of the credits. You don’t want to miss any of the clips.
