Theatre review by Steve Duffy –
Leapin’ Lizards! The world’s best-loved musical returns to Boston and the timing couldn’t be any better, because the only sun we will be getting is from Annie and her theme song.
As Annie, Angelina Carballo has an amazing and strong voice. She belted out every song she sang. I just wish she had a little more of the toughness needed for Annie.
Erin Fish as Miss Hannigan steals every scene she is in. Her rendition of “Little Girls” will make you laugh.
Gilgamesh Taggett is perfectly cast as Oliver “Daddy” Warbucks.
The cast of the pint-sized orphans kept the audience laughing and saying “aww” as they delivered dance numbers, songs, and one-liners throughout the roughly two-hour show.
The sets are simple and rotate with ease transforming from Miss Hannigan’s orphanage to Daddy Warbucks’ mansion.
What would “Annie” be without our favorite songs? ANNIE includes such unforgettable songs as “It’s the Hard Knock Life,” “Easy Street,” “I Don’t Need Anything But You,” plus the eternal anthem of optimism, “Tomorrow.”
Although there is nothing new about this production of “Annie,” its charm and optimistism of the story of everyone’s favorite little orphanage still holds.
Running Time: Two hours and 30 with one intermission.
Now playing through May 21, 2017
