At a ceremony outside the Prime Building downtown elected officials, candidates and Beyond Walls supporters gathered to ceremoniously throw the switch on recently installed neon artwork. These are the first three of what will eventually be twelve pieces throughout the downtown.
John Doherty of Painters and Allied Trades District Council 35 presented a check of $50,000 in support of the project, Al Wilson lead the countdown to the lighting, and Mayor Kennedy and Senator McGee, both supporters of the project, spoke to the crowd.
After, some walked around the corner to Central Square to catch the third night of projections by Raw Art Works. (link to photos)
Beyond Walls Lynn will bring dynamic LED lighting to the Central Square overpasses, a sculpture made from an actual GE engine made in Lynn, ten murals by top artists, many of them internationally known, and twelve examples of vintage neon art to the downtown. But there is still money to be raised.
