THE HERO stars the legendary Sam Elliott as an aging actor confronting mortality in the moving new film from writer/director Brett Haley (I’LL SEE YOU IN MY DREAMS).
SD: What drew you to telling this story?
BH: I wanted to give Sam Elliot a performance vehicle. I love him as an actor and wanted to write something specifically for him.
SD: What’s your writing process? Do you write every day?
BH: It depends on the day and how the script is coming along. It is its own process and every day is different can comes with its own challenges.
SD: Sam Elliot is phenomenal in this. What is it like working with him?
BH: It is a total joy. He was on my last film and I love Sam! We have a great infinite for each other. I am really honored to have worked with him again.
SD: Which was the most difficult character to cast?
BH: It was the role of Charlotte played by Laura Prepon. It was difficult to cast, because it was a difficult role. Laura is an amazing actress and she pulled it off brilliantly.
SD: What are you working on next?
BH: I am currently shooting another film in Brooklyn. Sorry, that is the only detail I can give you for now.
