Saturday from 1pm to 9pm Beyond Walls and the Downtown Lynn Cultural District got together to throw a massive party to celebrate the completion of the mural festival, the second annual Downtown Lynn Cultural District’s “Rock the Block,” hear live music and DJ’s, eat from food trucks and drink from Bent Water Brewing Company.
An earlier story boasted of 600 people attending Lynn Museum/LynnArts’ fun free Friday. The tally for Saturday was over 700. Even before the festival began, people from Lynn and all over were wandering the downtown and taking in the murals.
Foxes, Rival Island and Set the Nation played the band stage on Mt. Vernon, and then What Cheer? Brigade came marching in parade-style with the Beyond Walls / Cultural District crew, Mayor Kennedy, Congressman Moulton, Senator McGee and others for a ceremony in which the muralists and Al Wilson of Beyond Walls were presented with keys to the city.
Then, What Cheer? lead a parade up the commuter rail platform and past some of the murals. Video by Jennifer Adler:
When What Cheer? returned to the DJ tower (see photos), they synchronized with DJ Noel Snow for a handoff to the DJ portion of the festival, which ran all the way to 9pm. In order of appearance DJ’s were: Noel Snow, Thinkdank, J-Wall, and Sisko, who emceed and played through transitions. @BMoney138 and @Temp_cc, two of the muralists, live-painted B.W. logos under the DJ! Cape Ann-based artist Elizabeth Kirby Sullivan @e.k.sully live-painted a mural behind Pick Up Modern & More!
