Lynn Museum/LynnArts was the headquarters this year for the annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service in Lynn.
After meeting in the Museum to hear from organizer Jaime Figueroa, who chaired the event this year, La Vida Scholars, Congressman Seth Moulton and Mayor McGee, an estimated 400 people spread throughout the city to volunteer.
In LynnArts, people made greeting cards for those in military service and seniors, while in the front gallery, teens were talking about race in America. Back at the Museum, toiletry gift bags were being assembled for kids at the Plummer Home in Salem, among others. Music in the Lynn Museum was provided by Constantine Yanakakis.
Sponsors included Lynn Community Association, Upsidemedia (LynnHappens), Lynn Youth Outreach Advocacy (LYSOA), Lynn Housing Authority & Neighborhood Development, Mass. in Motion Lynn, The Food Project, La Vida Inc., Lynn Museum/LynnArts, and coffee was donated by the soon-to-open Brew on the Grid.
In this video, community organizer Jaime Figueroa emcees, La Vida students present on historical figures (recording started a little late,) Congressman Seth Moulton Speaks, followed by Mayor McGee.
