Movie review by Steve Duffy –
If you like Abba, then you will love “Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again.
It’s been 10 years, since Sophie (Amanda Seyfried) found her dads, and now in this musical prequel / sequel, she is reopening her mom’s (Streep) hotel on the beautiful fictional Greek island of Kalokairi.
Adding in a great new cast, the film also reunites the original cast for more fun and flashbacks.
Lily James is incredible as young Donna. I would see it again to just watch her performance.
And yes, ladies and several gentlemen, you are not dreaming, Cher has landed on the island. She performs “Fernando” perfectly as a duet with Andy Garcia the hotel’s manager.
Some may be disappointed that much of the soundtrack are lesser-known B-sides from the ABBA catalogue. Don’t worry, still included are the hits: “Dancing Queen,” “Super Trouper,” and “Mamma Mia.”
Great movie editing helped with the seamless transition between the past and then present. You will never have a confusing moment.
In a summer full of superhero and action films, ladies, Mamma Mia is the summer movie for you! Its utterly glorious and filled with romance, laughter and tears. You couldn’t ask for anything more in a fun summer movie.
