Film review by Steve Duffy –
The best intentions often come back to haunt you. MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE – FALLOUT finds Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) and his IMF team (Alec Baldwin, Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames) along with some familiar allies (Rebecca Ferguson, Michelle Monaghan) in a race against time after a mission gone wrong. Henry Cavill, Angela Bassett, and Vanessa Kirby also join the dynamic cast with filmmaker Christopher McQuarrie returning to the helm.
In full disclosure, I am not a fan of Tom Cruise except for his role in the Mission: Impossible franchise. You may be thinking “Do we need another MI movie?” I promise you after seeing this your answer will be “Yes.”
Fallout’s picks up right where Rogue Nation left off. Since it’s been three years, you may need a refresher of how Rogue Nation ended.
Cruise has created one of the best action heroes that has sustained the Mission: Impossible franchise for more than 20 years. Knowing that he performs most of his own stunts just amazes me.
The rest of the cast is extraordinary! Rhames and Pegg still have the perfect comic banter.
A little laughable for me was placing Cavill and Cruise at odds and waiting for them to duke it out. I mean, Cruise is in his 50’s and he is going to fight Superman.
The reason to watch this on the big screen is for the action. The action sequences, the car chases, and the stuns Cruise performs are all amazing and worth the ticket price.
RATTING: PG-13 for some suggestive material
