Arts After Hours is thrilled to present the Broadway classic Little Shop of Horrors for its annual Halloween-themed musical
Based on the 1960 comedy film, Little Shop of Horrors is a rock musical about a nerdy flower shop worker and his human-eating Venus flytrap. Written by Howard Ashman with music by Alan Menken, Little Shop of Horrors has entertained audiences for over three decades, racking up several awards during its Off-Broadway and Broadway productions. The musical was also made into a film directed by Frank Oz in 1986.
Directed by Arts After Hours’ Producing Artistic Director, Samantha Gambaccini, Little Shop of Horrors stars Revere’s Jason Hair-Wynn as Seymour and Saugus’ Amanda Raponi as Audrey. Audrey II will be played by Saugus’ Nick Raponi. The cast also includes Revere’s Kent Walters, Paul Stickney and Ali Sarnacchiaro of Saugus, Brighton’s Tristyn Sepersky, and Alice Vaught of Bedford. The show will be choreographed by Lynn’s Lauren Hall with music by Shane Stecher of Boxborough. The set is designed by Salem’s India Lee with Lynn’s Jen Ryan Gelzleichter as Stage Manager.
“Audiences are in for a surprise with this one,” said Gambaccini. “We’ve got a lot of new tricks up our sleeves for this production. We’re telling the classic Little Shop story, but through a slightly magnified lens. Seymour, down on his luck and broke, essentially makes a deal with the devil [in the form of an enormous plant alien from outer space] to try and get out of his perceivably awful existence. You can come see how that turns out, but any fan of the cult-classic film is in for a surprise. That’s all I can say!”
Little Shop of Horrors opens Friday October 19th at 8:00 P.M. The show will run three weekends with additional shows Saturday October 20th at 8:00 P.M., Sunday, October 21st at 4:00 P.M., Friday October 26th at 8:00 P.M., Saturday October 27th at 8:00 P.M, Sunday October 28th at 4:00 P.M, Thursday November 1st at 8:00 P.M., Friday November 2nd at 8:00 P.M., concluding with two shows on Saturday November 3rd at 2:00 P.M. and 8:00 P.M.
