5 Questions: Chuck Negron
5 Questions is a series by Steve Duffy –
Chuck Negron, formerly of Three Dog Night, has been captivating audiences for over five decades with his iconic vocals, unique humor and brilliant storytelling. His catalog of hits are timeless and appeal to music fans of all ages. In 1967, Negron became a founding member of Three Dog Night – a vocal trio having roots in R&B, rock-n-roll, and urban doo wop, creating a style of music that was totally new and unique. The world was introduced to Negron and Three Dog Night in 1969 by the band’s first million-seller “One.” Driven by Negron’s solo lead vocals on four million-selling singles, three No. 1 records, (one which topped the charts for six weeks, “Joy to The World”) five Top 5 hits and seven Top 40 hits, he put and kept Three Dog Night on the charts for six years. He performs upwards of 70 shows a year giving audiences the opportunity to hear his impressive volume of hits plus an exciting repertoire of new songs from his numerous solo CD’s. Negron released a new album this summer backed by the vocal talents of his two youngest daughters, Charlotte Rose and Annabelle Quinn, aptly named Negron Generations, and released the final edition of his award-winning book, “Three Dog Nightmare,” in March 2018.
SD: What’s your favorite part about touring with old friends on the Happy Together tour?
CN: Working along aside the other acts and getting to work with some of my peers again.
SD: How was the tour formed?
CN: It was started about 10 years ago. Luckily, it caught on and the fans have really loved it. I joined about 7 years ago. It’s been a lot of fun to do.
SD: When you perform songs from Three Dog Night now, how do you approach them differently?
CN: They are very challenging songs and especially now, since I was much younger when I originally sang them.
SD: Do you have new music in the works?
CN: I am working on some stuff now. I always have songs floating around in my head. I have a blog, where I write a variety of stories, and I am thinking about putting a little a book together.
SD: What can fans expect to see/hear at the show?
CN: We are going to perform all the hits. I perform my hits from Three Dog Night. It’s a night of listening to one hit after another. Its three hours of great memories and singing.
