The Frozen snowstorm is coming again!
Film review by Steve Duffy-
Why was Elsa born with magical powers? The answer is calling her and threatening her kingdom. Together with Anna, Kristoff, Olaf and Sven, she’ll set out on a dangerous but remarkable journey. In “Frozen,” Elsa feared her powers were too much for the world. In “Frozen 2,” she must hope they are enough.
Both Menzel and Bell deliver brilliant performances as Queen Elsa and Princess Anna. It was good to see Kiristoff get more screen time and a better storyline for this sequel.
Olaf (voiced by Josh Gad) is even more hilarious than in the first film. He steals the entire film. My favorite part is when he re-enacts the entire first film in under a minute.
The soundtrack doesn’t compare to the first. Christoff (voiced by Jonathan Groff) performs the best song of the film “Lost in the Woods” which sounds like 1980’s ballad. Also, notable is “Into the Unknown”, sung by Idina Menzel as Elsa. There are more musical numbers than the first movie that work well and help move the storyline along.
The animation is as great as you’d expect from a Disney film. It is astonishing how they get every detail right.
Frozen II doesn’t quite capture the magic of the original, but it does come very close.
Rating: PG for action/peril and some thematic elements
Runtime: 104 minutes
