"Enhanced" Cell Phone Photo of the Central Square Farmer's Market

- A community meeting is taking place  7:00pm this Thursday, November 12th at LynnArts to allow area residents input on a new piece of public art in Central Square.

The three story mural on the side of 25 Exchange St. will face the commuter rail platform and overlook the lot where The Food Project holds its seasonal farmer’s market.

Participants include experienced mural artist  Josh Winer, whose work can be seen on Newbury Street and Harvard Square,   David Fichter with over 150 commissioned works and examples that can be seen in Cambridge’s Central Square and as far away as Armenia, and Yetti Frenkel, whose murals adorn the walls of the Lynn Public Library’s Children’s department, other area libraries, as well as Harvard Avenue in Brookline. She has also done large-scale work, as seen in nearby East Boston.

In addition, LynnArts is conducting a questionnaire in English, Russian and Spanish. Go to the LynnArts Community Mural Project page to download the questionnaire (It’s in Microsoft Word format) and for further information.

    Thanks Corey! Spread the word!

You’ve sold me. I’ll get my survey filled out and over to Lynn Arts this week. Survey monkey, still a very easy and good option to get more involvement from Lynners at large.

I think this is an amazing project and I actually think my living room is probably the best view of that wall in all of Downtown, so it’s sort of as important as the art I hang on the walls inside my apartment.

    Printing survey, right now!

Corey- I will recommend the survey monkey version to Susan tomorrow.

The wall is huge, and although the list seems like it’s a lot to include, when you see how it’s broken up-although it will be full, it will really encompass the vision of the city, past and present! Also, this project is not fully grant funded.

There is A LOT of fund raising that still needs to be done to pay for the mural. The wall needs to be fixed, the roof had to be fixed to stop the water from running over the side, which was a huge expense in itself.

Taking a quick walk over to drop off the survey or dropping it in the mail takes minimal effort for such a huge undertaking that will benefit the whole community. Remember, LynnArts is not run by the city, it’s a private non-profit and is doing this on their own, with one full time staff person, and one part time staff person! Community participation is key to moving this project forward.

I encourage everyone to participate in this key first phase of planning by filling out the survey! This is the going to be the largest public art piece in the city, so everyone who is interested in seeing it move forward, please submit a survey. Let the artists know what you would like to see included, whether it be Lynn Shakers and Movers from the past or present, landmarks, historical events, things that you feel illustrate the future ir strengths of the city, etc. The artists are looking for subject matter and input.

I wish it was a surveymonkey thing, rather then something you have to print and mail or bring over, but I definitely will fill it out.

Personal opinion is they are trying to do way too much on one wall. Is some of that dictated by the grant?

Yes. Turnout was very low, but the artists were there and each took part in a presentation. The plan calls for the top two thirds to feature Lynn’s history, historical figures, the ocean and lynn woods. The lower third will be the final stage and will have community participation in the creating of it. There will be more meetings and you can still submit the survey on LynnArt’s website (link in post).

So, did anyone go to this? What was said?

I like the Farmer’s Market ad that is there now. From my window, sometimes I look out and think there is a field out there. :-) I won’t be able to go to this. As usual, I will be out west of 128 this evening. I like the spirit of this. It seems it is trying to link Lynn’s past to it’s present. I wish the top two thirds would still focus more on Downtown. What is was like when business was thriving down here. What it was like when people came to the movies down here.
