- City of Lynn Concepts has been discussing urban planning and visions for Lynn since mid-November. This recent post deals with how to make the entrance to DTL more inviting by masking the unsightly MBTA garage.

- Furthering the Downtown discussion, Corey Jackson’s latest “They’re Talking About Lynn” installment deals with what we may have learned from those who shared their memories of DTL’s past.

- The Lynn-side Edition shows us a quirky, cool, un-expected and very temporary artistic expression in the sand.

- Tammallamma’s Photo a Day is just what the name says. Where is this?

- Be sure to check out  Nick Sounds Off, a DTL resident and college professor’s absolutely “Spot-on” music reviews and commentary

- And finally, Living in Lynn has a Dream for Market Street development.

Well said, Seth. The Item definitely knows what buttons push to get people in a frenzy. I don’t tend to blame the media as a whole for all the problems in this city/country/world, but it does appear that in this case, they are part of the machine that stokes the fires of resentment. Too bad they can’t rise above that more often. I do not hold them in high esteem.

To me that article seemed to have a sinister purpose, to degrade Judy, to take the wind out of her sails. It seems the Item represents a collective conscience that wants to rule Lynn, Clancy included, ofcourse. Now that they’ve lost their power and control, they are desperately trying to defeat her psychologically. Hopefully she has a strong enough psyche to not let these minds influence her!!

I wish I knew the answer. But Look at the Item’s top story today. Regardless of one’s opinion on the matter, it’s just bait for the usually sort of commentary.

There are formulas in place to calculate pensions based on years of service, salary, etc. In other words, that’s what it was going to amount to based on the current rules that apply to everyone. Does that make it newsworthy? Should there be pension reform, which would apply to everyone across-the-board? What is the motive behind comparing Clancy’s pension to Kennedy’s salary? Kennedy opted for a lower salary, otherwise there would be less of a story, here. And then, completely out of nowhere, it moves on to Jansi Chandler’s pension, which is a more newsworthy situation, but should be in a separate article.

Oops – back to the subject. I suppose if we did more deliberate comment-baiting, we’d have more discussion. It’s not bad once in a while, but too much of it will lower the level of discourse and neither of us are interested in pandering to the lowest common denominator.

I’d like to promote high standards, even if it leads to the appearance of a less active web site. (I have Google Analytics to tell me there are plenty of visitors.)

Thanks Seth. It seems it’s easy to spark conversation on something negative or controversial and much more of a challenge to get people to talk constructively or on a positive topic. Why is that?
