Mentors and mentees from Lynn attend Boston Celtics game as part of National Mentoring Month event
Mass Mentoring Partnership (MMP), a statewide organization fueling the movement to expand quality mentoring for youth across Massachusetts, hosted over 20 mentors and mentees from Lynn youth-serving organizations at the Boston Celtics game on Wednesday, January 31st as part of the third annual Mentoring Night at TD Garden. The event, part of MMP’s National Mentoring Month celebration, including nearly 200 mentors and mentees from around the state who received tickets donated through the Boston Celtics Shamrock Foundation.
Representatives from the Boys and Girls Club Lynn, Centerboard and Family and Children’s Service attended the game and took a picture at on the court at halftime. During the game, the Celtics presented their Heroes Among Us Award to Lisa Purter, a mentor in Lynn with the Big Sister Association of Greater Boston. The Heroes Among Us Award is presented to an individual who, through their unique commitment and humanitarian spirit, have made exceptional and lasting contributions to our community. The official Ballkid for the evening was a mentee from Lynn, Jacob Diaz, with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Massachusetts Bay.
MMP is working in collaboration with the United Way of Massachusetts Bay and Merrimack Valley to strengthen and grow the capacity of organizations in Lynn to reach more youth through mentoring relationships. “We were thrilled to send a group of mentors and mentees from Lynn to the Celtics game for this special experience. We know that mentoring is one of the strategies that can strengthen communities like Lynn,” said Marty Martinez, President and CEO of MMP. “Research shows that the presence of a caring adult in the life of a young person helps prepare them for school, set them on a career track and develop important life skills. We look forward to continuing this important work to strengthen communities like Lynn.”
