Inaugural Lynn Gospel Concert Raises Funds for Community Work in Lynn
Local gospel singer Doreen Murray and community leaders team up with United Way to host concert tomorrow night
United Way of Massachusetts Bay & Merrimack Valley and Greater Bethlehem Pentecostal Church will celebrate the inaugural Lynn Gospel Concert on Saturday, April 6at the Church. The event, organized by Reverend Tony Bennett and Lynn community leaders, features popular local gospel singer Doreen Murray and other local musicians. All of the organizers and performers have donated their time and talents so that all proceeds from ticket sales may be donated to United Way and reinvested in the Lynn community.
“The Gospel Concert is a wonderful community event, bringing people together to celebrate the diversity and talents of our friends and neighbors, and share in all of the good work happening in Lynn,” said Reverend Tony Bennett of the Greater Bethlehem Pentecostal Church.
The event has brought together a number of local community-based organizations including Doreen Murray, Building Bridges Through Music, the Lynn Youth Choir, Berklee Gospel Ensemble, and more. The concert is part of United Way’s Community by Community work in Lynn, which invests in quality early education, youth programs, and family services.
United Way of Massachusetts Bay and Merrimack Valley has been working closely with Lynn residents and local leaders to help the community realize their vision and action plan to shape the future of Lynn. United Way’s more recent investments in Lynn include free tax prep at the Lynn Financial Stability Center at Centerboard, providing summer jobs for teens, sponsoring local sites in our Summer Learning Collaborative and more, currently investing over $1.3 million each year in 12 community partners in Lynn.
“Thanks to Reverend Bennett and the Lynn community team who brought such a tremendous amount of energy and passion to bring the Gospel Concert to life,” said Michael K. Durkin, President of United Way MBMV. “This is the essence of what Community by Community work is all about and United Way is proud to be a part of the city of Lynn’s bright future.”
