1. Neuroscience over KIPP at old 507, for the Veterans

Dear Editor:

Although lacking the financial wherewithal or the political connections to have a big impact on the economic development of Lynn, I do have an idea that I can identify with personally with regards to the need. When considering the fact that both some of the finest hospitals and educational facilities in the world are in such close proximity to our area, Lynn would be an ideal choice for a neuroscience research facility.

The proposed and somewhat controversial site for the KIPP charter school on Post 507 VFW land would provide a prime location for development of such a center and be more harmonious with the goals of the organization. After all, the new technologies leave us with more survivors of war but a drastic rise in the incidence of traumatic brain injury. The effects of which are life altering.

Don’t our veterans who have paid such a price for our freedom deserve the best opportunity to return to the most rewarding life they can obtain? I have never been in the service but as a citizen I reap the rewards of those who have. However, I can speak to the life altering affects of brain injury, being a coma survivor back in 1981. I have had to live with the results of a less than complete recovery. This has impressed upon me the importance of giving our returning wounded veterans their best opportunity for recovery.

Lynn has a history of being a leader in the field of neurological treatment. A few years ago Lynn was home for the corporate offices for New Medico, Inc., a network of neurological rehabilitation facilities. It is a little ironic that the old corporate building now hosts the offices of the Lynn Special Education Department.

I call on those with the capital and political will to push this idea forward and give back to those who have gave so much.

2. Tower Scare

Cellphone towers can be seen from anywhere, on Essex Street, the Fay Estate, and even other neighborhoods of Lynn. (Yes, the Fay Estate has one too on Camp Lion’s grounds which is partially in Lynn and Salem). What we do not see are the antennas hiding in several buildings throughout the city. You’ll have to check out www.antennasearch.com to see what I mean. Even if antennas cannot be seen, it matters, because scientists warn of radiation risk.

Understanding we cannot avoid the reality of these established towers in today’s dense communities, it remains disturbing to not be aware where they are hiding. It is almost unethical to use rooftops, church steeples, trees, and historical buildings as a vessel to hide cellular antenna’s in.

One idea the consumer industry uses, is to place a warning label for radiation on its products. If consumer products are required to have a warning label, then buildings that hold antenna’s should too. This would help people become aware, and possibly make the building owner think twice before accepting one. It might even help consumers think twice or possibly help the industry change it’s technology, if the public is more aware.

One Response to “Letters to the Editor”

The EVIL ACS is obviously covering up for the Big Box Stores and their plans to enslave the human race by giving us all the big “C” from cell phone towers! Good Catch Katerina!

Seriously, not everything you read on the internet is true. Might wanna do some research (and consider the sources when you do!). Maybe next time try sipping a DECAF frappucino?
