bodyART & Through Different Lenses Opening at GALA @ GALA - Galleries at LynnArts
May 24 @ 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm
Spread the love

GALA’s (Galleries at LynnArts) next public event, the opening reception for “bodyART” and “Through Different Lenses”, will be on May 24th from 5:30 – 7:30pm at 25 Exchange St, Lynn, MA 01901.

“The human form has always been a subject of art, so a show based on that theme is no surprise” says GALA President and Gallery Director Annette Sykes. “What is going to be a surprise is where this show will take the human body and its place in art.” GALA has chosen to not only include traditional portraiture in this show, but move beyond and highlight nontraditional representations and methods. There will a live component to this opening with performance art and interactive pieces. GALA will also welcome Haig Demarjian as a guest jurer. Haig trained primarily as a printmaker, earning his undergraduate degree from Middlebury College and received both an MA and an MFA from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. In a career that expands over 25 years, his artwork has been exhibited internationally and spans a broad range of media from fine art to commercial illustration to motion picture film.

The second show opening that night, “Through Different Lenses” is a two person show featuring the works of Elizabeth Hall and Nicole Werth. The show will explore how perspective and the lens through which you see the world can color your perception and experience. Hall, a photographer, and Werth, a painter, took on similar locales and themes to pair pieces that show how shifting time, seasons, or vantage point can greatly changes how you perceive a object or a space. “Perception is your own private understanding of the world. Through art, creators are able to share their viewpoint of the world around us, and encourage the viewer look at the world around them in a new way” says Werth.

For more information, please visit www.galleriesatlynnarts.org For more information on Haig Demarjian, please visit http://www.artofhaig.com For more information on Elizabeth Hall, please visit www.mizlizzeephotography.com For more information on Nicole Werth, please visit www.NicoleWerthDesigns.com

Through Different Lenses Opening Reception – A photographer’s and painter’s view of the world featuring works of Elizabeth Hall and Nicole Werth

When a photographer and a painter take on the same theme and vistas, you get images that speak to each other, but that are through different lenses. Personal experiences, ideology and viewpoint will color understanding just as perspective and vantage point will change an artwork.

Meet Christie Connolly, who runs OASIS – Open Art Studio and Inspirational Space, in downtown Lynn.

Christie Connolly is a Lynn native; she grew up in Lynn and as a single mother, brought her daughter up in Lynn as well. Soon after having her daughter she went to Bunker Hill Community College where she earned two Associates Degrees in Media Technology, and Computer Graphics, while waitressing and bartending at several local restaurants.

She then went on to start her own DJ/Karaoke business in 1992, She has continually worked all over New England hosting functions, weddings and almost any type of event you could imagine. She has worked in clubs, bars, restaurants and homes, she continues to host part time for the sheer love of it.

Christie is also an artist who has shown her work at several galleries in Lynn, Beverly, Cambridge as well as The State House in Boston.

Her works are mostly abstract in nature but she also does portraits as well as landscapes using various mediums such as watercolor and Ink and oil pastel.

In 2008 she decided to go back to school to earn her BA at Lesley University as a personal goal.

While attending Lesley she stumbled on to the Expressive Therapies program and decided to stay and earn her MA in Mental Health Counseling/Expressive Therapies.

She worked in the field at South Bay Mental Health in Lynn and NFI (National Family Institute) in Peabody before earning her License in Sept 2016.

She subsequently opened her own practice in August 2017 at Lynn Arts Building 25 Exchange Street in Lynn at OASIS, which stands for Open Art Studio and Inspirational Space. Oasis is an open art studio model, a space that is open to the pubic for art group workshops and open art studio times, private functions as well as private personal one to one counseling.

As an Art Therapist, she has worked with families, individuals and couples in therapy: with adults with dual diagnosis and trauma; seniors; children; special needs groups, among others. She has facilitated many therapeutic workshops using various therapeutic modalities such as Talk Therapy, Play Therapy, Sand Tray Therapy, Art Therapy, IFS (Internal Family Systems Therapy), CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy).

Night Lights Downtown @ Ironbound

Night Lights Downtown at Ironbound on Mt. Vernon Street in downtown Lynn is family-friendly, dog-friendly, open-air night market featuring independent vendors selling art and other handmade items, food trucks, craft beer, juices & smoothies, and featuring live painting, a multi-color light display, and small-scale performances celebrating the rich arts & cultural diversity of Lynn.

This pilot program will begin along the entire length of the sidewalk on the bridge side of Mount Vernon St. We will be conducting surveys on site to gather public feedback. We are hoping our neighbors downtown on Exchange St, Union St and Central Ave will also participate and set up tables, booths and tents on the sidewalk in front of their buildings every Thursday night from 4-8pm.

We are looking for residents, businesses, Arts & Cultural organizations and realtor associations to partner with us on this venture to liven up the downtown!
