Meet Christie Connolly, who runs OASIS – Open Art Studio and Inspirational Space, in downtown Lynn.
Christie Connolly is a Lynn native; she grew up in Lynn and as a single mother, brought her daughter up in Lynn as well. Soon after having her daughter she went to Bunker Hill Community College where she earned two Associates Degrees in Media Technology, and Computer Graphics, while waitressing and bartending at several local restaurants.
She then went on to start her own DJ/Karaoke business in 1992, She has continually worked all over New England hosting functions, weddings and almost any type of event you could imagine. She has worked in clubs, bars, restaurants and homes, she continues to host part time for the sheer love of it.
Christie is also an artist who has shown her work at several galleries in Lynn, Beverly, Cambridge as well as The State House in Boston.
Her works are mostly abstract in nature but she also does portraits as well as landscapes using various mediums such as watercolor and Ink and oil pastel.
In 2008 she decided to go back to school to earn her BA at Lesley University as a personal goal.
While attending Lesley she stumbled on to the Expressive Therapies program and decided to stay and earn her MA in Mental Health Counseling/Expressive Therapies.
She worked in the field at South Bay Mental Health in Lynn and NFI (National Family Institute) in Peabody before earning her License in Sept 2016.
She subsequently opened her own practice in August 2017 at Lynn Arts Building 25 Exchange Street in Lynn at OASIS, which stands for Open Art Studio and Inspirational Space. Oasis is an open art studio model, a space that is open to the pubic for art group workshops and open art studio times, private functions as well as private personal one to one counseling.
As an Art Therapist, she has worked with families, individuals and couples in therapy: with adults with dual diagnosis and trauma; seniors; children; special needs groups, among others. She has facilitated many therapeutic workshops using various therapeutic modalities such as Talk Therapy, Play Therapy, Sand Tray Therapy, Art Therapy, IFS (Internal Family Systems Therapy), CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy).
