Community Discussion on Racist Vandalism and Graffiti in Lynn
Hosted by Ward 5 Councilor Dianna Chakoutis, Seth Albaum and Lynn Community Television
Recently, an artists work was vandalized on Mt. Vernon Street with a Hitler mustache and Nazi “SS” bolts.
This comes not long after a business was broken into vandalized on Boston Street with racist and Nazi graffiti.
Though not likely connected to the Boston Street incident, there have been Nazi SS bolts and sometimes swastikas appearing in an area of downtown Lynn for nearly a year, now.
We need to decide as a community what we are going to do about this despicable trend, and so we are having a discussion at Lynn Community Television with Ward 5 Councilor Dianna Chakoutis.
My grandparents survived the holocaust, marrying after the war in Germany and having my uncle and mother prior coming to the United States (long story / story for another time). Branches of my father’s family who did not emigrate from Eastern Europe also perished. To me, this is personal.
If you see any, please photograph it, report it to the police, Anti-Defamation League, and unfortunately, we need to keep it as evidence before we clean it or cover it up. While we appreciate those who have forwarded me these things to report, they also need to be reported by first-hand witnesses.
We will update this as other parties sign-on to attend.
