On December 7th and 8th the English Theater Collective (the student drama organization at Lynn English High School) will present their fall production in the Lynn English High School Auditorium. Tickets are $10 cash only at the door.
This year they will present Poe., a play that includes seven of Edgar Allan Poe’s most famous works. Included are The Tell-Tale Heart, The Cask of Amontillado and The Raven. The show is intended for families, middle school and high school students.
It is some time in a not too distant future. The Prince Prospero has gathered a thousand of his closest friends and they have sealed themselves inside his castle to avoid The Red Death, a plague that is ravaging the countryside. On one particular night he decides to throw a masked ball. In each of the seven rooms where the party is being held is presented a story of suspense, wonder or outright fear. A man seeks revenge against his friend’s insult by leading him down to the vaults below his home where a terrifying fate awaits. A prisoner of The Inquisition endures psychological torture for his beliefs. A poet dreams of his dead love and is visited by a mysterious bird who repeats a single, mournful word.
Many of the dreams and nightmares that sprang from Poe’s head are presented in a single work that exhibits the mad genius of one of America’s most celebrated authors.
