Learn about The REAL Program and see its many features created for best practices in teaching and learning including our outdoor classroom inspired by Outdoor Educator Victoria Hackett and built by volunteers from the BU Global Day Service Program. On this day, children are our guests of honor as we will provide fun family-friendly activities such as face painting, crafts, dancing and even an ice cream truck. Chinese food will be available from Yan’s China Bistro.
Our mission is to address literacy issues by providing books, homework assistance, healthy snacks and dinners, enrichment opportunities, college campus visits and just plain healthy fun for children in a safe, caring environment as well as English language tutoring for adults. We believe in supporting the whole family.
“I have chosen to volunteer at The REAL Program because of their culture, people and purpose. The diversity found at this program is extraordinary. There are families that come to United States to improve their quality of life. This program gives these families opportunities to learn alongside their children. They learn about the English language and the culture of their new home in the United States. Within the time that I have been a volunteer, I’ve learned more about myself than I would have ever thought possible. There is positivism, leadership, and an active-environment and more to guide others to have a successful life. This is a program not only to change children’s lives but to change all of ours. Andris Saldivar is a student at North Shore Community College.
