THE NECESSITY OF POETRY:

A READING & CONVERSATION WITH CHAUN BALLARD & TARA BALLARD

Introduced by Lynn’s own, poet – & the Ballards’ poetry professor – LINDA McCARRISTON

Whether in America or the Middle East, in times of uncertainty, “poetry becomes as essential as bread” (Czeslaw Milosz). After spending much of eight years teaching abroad, poets Chaun Ballard & Tara Ballard present work that document some of the great complexities of our time, highlighting the everyday wonders of human endurance & cementing national & international history in the very making.

Chaun Ballard‘s chapbook, Flight, won the 2018 Sunken Garden Poetry Prize & is published by Tupelo Press. His poetry can be found in Anomaly, Columbia Poetry Review, Frontier, Pittsburgh Poetry Review, Rattle, & other literary magazines. Poems have been nominated for a Pushcart Prize & Best of the Net.

Tara Ballard‘s collection, House of the Night Watch, won the 2016 Many Voices Project prize in poetry & will be published this fall by New Rivers Press. Tara’s poetry has been included in Bellingham Review, Poetry Northwest, The Southampton Review, Salamander, & other literary magazines.
