Fare Hikes and Commuter Woes, Officials Hear From Riders

MBTA officials heard from the public and elected officials yesterday at Breed Middle School in Lynn. There was mixed praise about the second version of the revised commuter rail schedule, with concerns that two express trains would bypass Lynn and Swampscott, only saving Salem riders two minutes in their commutes. Riders also were concerned that looming fare hikes would but more of a burden on the elderly, students and working poor, with some suggesting students and the elderly be spared the raised fares.

The MBTA is taking comments from the public through February 12 and changes would go into effect May 23rd, 2016.

Here’s new schedule information, a complete listing of public hearings and where you can give feedback before the comment period closes.
